THE BEST MOVIE QUOTES.

We all like to use sentences we have heard in movies, or at least, we all recognise many of them. There are some of these sentences which have become part of every day language, not only in the United States but also in the rest of the world.

We want to present you some of the most famous movie quotes. We are sure that you already know most of them, as they belong to some of the most important films of history:

-"Frankly, my dear, I don´t give a damn."  Rhet Butler (Clark Gable) says this to Scarlett O´Hara in the last lines of Gone With The Wind, after she asks him: "Where shall I Go?, Where Shall I Do?"

-"I´m gonna make him an offer he can´t refuse." Vito Corleone says this to Jonny Fontane in The Godfather I to make him sure that he will help him get the part he wants in a movie.

-"Toto, I´ve got a feeling we´re not in Kansas any more." Dorothy tells her dog, Toto, that it´s quite obvious they are not at home. It´s The Wizard of Oz, of course.

- "Go ahead, make my day." These are the famous words that Harry Callaghan (Clint Eastwood) says to the robber who is threatening to shoot a waitress while he points his gun at his head. It belongs to Sudden Impact.

-"May the Force be with you."  Han Solo (Harrison Ford) wishes good luck to Luke Skywalker in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope before a battle.

-"Well, nobody´s perfect." This is one of the most famous endings of any film ever and belongs to Some Like It Hot. Osgood Fielding III tells Jerry ("Daphne") that no matter how he/ she is, they will marry.

-"The stuff that dreams are made of." This sentence pronounced by Sam Spade (Humphrey Bogart) at the end of The Maltese Falcon has its origin in The Tempest, the tragedy by W. Shakespeare.

And to finish with, we are presenting here three of the most popular quotes from Casablanca. Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart) and Ilsa Lund (Ingrid Bergman) say lots of memorable sentences. We could have published an entire post with them. These ones are good examples:

-"Louis, I think this is the beginning of a long friendship."

-"We´ll always have Paris."

-"Play it, Sam. Play "As Time Goes By"."

´

These are only ten examples of some well-known movie quotes. There are hundreds of sentences we could have included together with, or instead of, them.

Which ones do you prefer? Are there any quotes you think we should have included? Don´t hesitate and tell us about them!

  9. "Gladiator". Marco Aurelio says these words to Comodo, his son, before he died killed by him. I don´t know if these words are wise... or sad.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I didn´t remember them. Wise or sad? Maybe both things, or maybe it depends on your point of view, that is to say, depending on if you see them as a father or as a son.

  12. How wonderful to read your comments!

We considered many of the quotes you suggest but there was space only for ten. Maybe we´ll have to publish a second post since it´s quite obvious there are lots of famous sentences that deserve to be mentioned.

In that case, we´ll take into account some of the quotes you suggest.

In this post one of the quotes that we like is "Well, nobody´s perfect." and another quote which we also like is "After all, tomorrow is another day!" (Gone with the wind ). That means that if something which you try to get goes badly, you could try it in a new opportunity.

The great thing about those old films you have taken the quotes from is that everybody knows them. I personally know all those sentences, even those wich I haven't watched the film! I will do it soon and in my opinion everybody should because they are an important part of contemporary history.

I think that remember quotes from movie quotes brings us to remember certain moments in our life.
For example, '' Hakuna Matata '' , The King Of Lion. This quote frame good moments in my childhood.
From my point od view, I thinkt that everyone remembers a quote from a movie.

When I read these quotes, I don't know all. But, I wish I had watched so many films. I know more the quotes written by L.G-S than the English Department.
And the problem, I saw in this post, the young people don't know these films, but some quotes, they do, because they appear in some cartoons.

“Houston, we have a problem” (Apollo 13)
    ...

  18. I think that ''I want to play a game'' from Saw is a quote that everybody knows. I'd say that is one of my favourites, of course with almost the rest that all of you have been adding. By the way, amazing post.

    1. A good quote Oscar, Saving Private Ryan is full of them. I particularly like it when the captain tells Private Ryan "earn this, earn this," as he dies on the bridge.

If you like Saving Private Ryan, you should watch 'Band of Brothers.' (Hermanos de Sangre in Spanish.) It's ten episodes long and follows a group of American paratroopers from D-Day to the end of the war - my favourite TV series ever

  31. Good to see all these English film quotes! Keep up the good work!
A few good ones from a series of American films called "The Bourne Identity," "The Bourne Supremacy," and "The Bourne Ultimatum."

    Two fantastic quotes:

1 - "Get some sleep Pam, you look tired" and

The second comes from a scene just after Jason Bourne sends the whole of the FBI (American Security Services) on a hunt for him over New York, whilst he breaks into the Boss's office and phones him up.
2 - JB: "Where are you?
    Boss: "In my office."
    JB: "I doubt that."
    Boss: "How come?
JB: "If you were stood in your office, we'd be having this conversation face to face."
