CLOSING TIME

It's time for me to say goodbye. When I started to write in this blog, I could not imagine it would be so pleasing. I only hope it has also been satisfying or at least entertaining for most of you.

Not so many weeks ago, a person I really admire reminded me that what matters in life is not the final destination, but the road, the people you meet and the friends you make on it. I leave the school full of unforgettable memories.

Thanks to all the students at Álvaro Yáñez and to all the teachers in the English Department. I have spent here six wonderful years. I'll carry all of you in my heart.

I'm sure that the blog will go on in the next years. And it would be nice to be able to participate in some way on it. As I don't like farewells, I'll post a song and a poem which speak for me.

This goodbye leaves a big hole in my heart, but as the song says: "we must carry on". Thank you for helping me fill my hole up.

Although you had never been my official English teacher, I had so much fun in York with you and it is sad that you are leaving. We will all miss you so much.

Manuel, it has been a great pleasure working with you in Bembibre all these years.
I wish you all the luck in your new school. I am sure they will be very lucky to have you as a member of the teaching staff. Here we will keep on looking for "A Method in the Madness".
And.. yes, it is sad but "Show must go on".

  6. STUDENTS OF 1º BACHILLERATO HHCCSS16 June 2014 at 09:39

IN THE NAME OF OF THE STUDENTS OF 1º BACHILLERATO HHCCSS.
    EXCUSE OUR LINGUSTIC MISTAKES.
    THIS IS JUST TO SAY...
Next year is going to be, in part, a sad year for us because one of the best teachers will not be with us, it sounds like he died but no. Although we know that there’s no turning back, we’ll say it one last time, don’t go Manu! You make very bad about leaving, because we’re going to miss you, especially us, your students of 1st HCS, which, modesty aside, you’re going to miss too. We all kept a lot of memories with you, and complied a small piece of all these memories during these years, let’s see:
Well, first of all you must be proud now, so many times you told us to write a comment on the blog and now we’re dedicating you an entry! But we don’t like to do it in farewell. One day, we remember, you took us to the language lab just for leave a comment in the blog, we think you’re a hipster, because you’re a blogger, you have “gafas-pasta” and you like English, and England… the total hipster. We will really miss your terrible jokes, with which you start to laugh for a half an hour, especially the joke “if, if between” or "What's green and smells like paint - green paint”.
When one time, you opened the door and said “Look, the light don’t turn on”. We will miss also every time that we have an exam you tell us “is the easiest exam of your lives” or… “your second easiest exam of your lives” or… the third easiest exam of your lives” sadly we will not get to the fourth easiest exam of your lives. We will also miss all the examples in which you always put the verb “work” to influence us , and put verbs in the third person negative with an “s” for we tell you that is wrong. You’re a teacher that wants to take until the last second of class, “We have 5 minutes left, we have to take advantage!” and as is logical to want to take advantage of time, when people are late for mishaps like “ I didn’t have hot water” you get angry sometimes, but others you just start laughing, again.
You give many turns to examples, which we appreciate in exams, but during the class… not much. When you say “I’ve never put any warning, do you want me to put the first? When you put us in the examples in a sentence that always, always, always there’s a hint behind it. You never know when there’s meetings at last class… And we don’t know how do you do it, we have class always at first hour of the morning, you enter in class made a fashion plate, sometimes with your typical shirts with short sentences in English in it, and you leave class full of chalk everywhere. There are so many things we will miss about you… but one thing: the pen of the zeros, always threatening to zeros and the same pen in hand, we hate that pen, we want you to throw it, it’s terrifying.
However and with that, hope you’re happy wherever you go, still watching SpongeBob with your children, and if we don’t see you again, at least you have a good memory of all of us, as we have of you! You will be greatly missed.
With a little tear in all our eyes, your students.

    1. Thank you so much to all the students of 1st HCS!

It has been a great surprise to see your moving message. You have turned the daily obligation to go to work into a real pleasure (even though we had to get up so early). You have shown to me to be not only good students but, what is more, great people.

Keep on working and being as you are now! I´m sure that you'll get the reward that you deserve.

I hope to see you some day soon. You can be sure that I am already missing you and that I will carry with me a lot of beautiful and unforgettable memories of you all.

It's been a real pleasure to be your teacher all these years (how lucky I am that you cannot see me as touched as I am now)

I wish you the best of luck!

I haven't been taught by you but being with you in York made me realise that you are one of the best teachers in the school, always worried about his students and trying his best to make them learn and enjoy at the same time .You know what they say: ''When one door closes, another opens'' I just wish you all the best!

  14. Best of luck, Manuel! I was great working with you this year; you've helped and taught me so much. Along with the rest of the English teachers and the students, you made this the most memorable year of my life. The kids love you; the students you have in the years to come are lucky to have you, and if I so chose to become a teacher, I hope I'm half as great as you are. Thank you for everything, and best wishes.
