THE BRIGHT. AMERICAN FOLK-ROCK FROM LEÓN.

The Bright, American folk-rock from León

When you listen to the songs of this band you can easily think that you are listening to any new, fresh folk-rock American band. The same can be said about any of the videos of The Bright. They could have been filmed anywhere in the Rocky Mountains or on any Canadian lake.

However, The Bright is a band from León and their videos have been filmed in places as near as the Cantabrian Range in León or the Lake of Sanabria. This is a clear example that sometimes you don´t need to go far away to find quality music.

Miryam Gutiérrez (guitar and vocals) and Aníbal Sánchez (guitar, mandolin) form The Bright. Their first album, Soundtrack for a Winter´s Tale, is completely in English. Among their most important influences, they mention Neil Young (there is a cover of his song Cowgirl in the Sun in the album), Lucinda Williams or Tom Petty.

Miryam Gutiérrez is the band´s voice

They are releasing their second album, Estados, on April 2. They sing in Spanish in their new album and they hope to confirm the success they got with their first album.

Mind our reccommendation and see the three videos we have included. Not so many years ago, Miryam and Aníbal were students at any high school in León and they studied English the same as you do now.

Do you like them? We hope so.

  1. I´ve always thought that good things are usually nearer than we can think... Here we have a clear example.

  2. You´re right, Maite. Sometimes it´s difficult to recognise that we go far to look for things that are just in front of our eyes.

  3. A "bright" post, Manuel. A nice example of good music made in English by Spanish Bands. Let me also recommend you Second, a band from Murcia, which won the first Global Battle of the Bands in 2004, a music festival which took place in London and gathered the best rock bands in the world. That experience was "recorded" in the video of their song Invisible (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFL7Ty9FSDE, one of their most powerful hits, though, probably, their most successful song is Rincón exquisito (this one in Spanish), which opened the American market for them (here you can watch a nice live version of the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQDFUF5EhUc)
